Rhode Trip: A hat and cowl reboot

The Rhode Trip Hat and Cowl are the new names of the patterns formerly known as “Hat No. 5” and “A Cowl for Hat No. 5”.

This hat was the fifth hat I designed in 2012 while knitting hats for a great project run by  a local yarn store (Lovelyarns), called the 500 Hats Project.  This hat has become a staple and I love knitting it as gifts and I have at least four in my own hat collection.

The pattern deserved an update and a better name than hat no. 5! And, as the hat was getting a new name and pattern update, it made sense to give the cowl pattern the same treatment.

Why Rhode Trip? Because I worked on the pattern updates while in the process of moving up to Rhode Island and I found this pattern to be perfect for working on in small chunks of time and in between frequent interruptions! So if you’re looking for a fall knitting project that won’t take too long, is fairly easy to remember, and will give you a really lovely result, the Rhode Trip Hat and Cowl may be the right project for you.

This hat and cowl are knit in the round and uses basic cabling. There are great projects or an adventurous beginner ready to take on a cabled hat or an experienced knitter looking for an easy to remember, quick cabled hat pattern.

The hat and cowl are available by clicking the buttons below or at the top of this page, or on the free patterns page.

~Happy Knitting.

Hi – I don’t have instructions for that kind of modification and I haven’t seen that project (it sounds awesome though!). I’d check to see if the person who posted it included notes about how they modified the hat or if they have a Ravelry project page. Hope that helps!
